A parents story
| On 21 October 1998 we
learned that our, then, 8 year old had Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL).
Like most people we had heard of Leukaemia but had no real knowledge about
the disease or it's treatment.
Our and Jamie's fight against the disease was ultimately unsuccessful and he died peacefully at home on 27 June 1999. Over the 8 months we learned a great deal and our hope is that our experiences will help others who are confronted by this awful news. Our story will be of most relevancy to parents living in the UK but we think all parents will gain something from our experiences. To help you find the information most useful to you we have divided our site into the following: |
NEW - A memorial concert @ Royal Opera House 11 June 2000
What is ALL?A short description of ALL and some books and leaflets that we found helpful.
Our top lessons. Over the 8 months we believe we learned some keys lessons about ALL, the treatments and how to make the heath service work.
Support for siblings and school friends. We found that knowing what to tell, when and how was help us and Jamie's friends to at least some extent understand what was happening and come to terms with Jamie's disease.
Some useful links and sources of information. A far from exhaustive list of useful web site and mail ids.
Jamie's web site. Jamie was a real "trekie" and took great pleasure from creating his own web site.
Some pictures of Jamie enjoying life as only he could.
Our story. The ups and downs of 8 months of hope and despair.
